What is the Thrivent Financial Fitness Club program?
This 4-part program is an educational and motivational discussion series that helps everyday people get financially fit.

At the Club you:

  • Learn how to take small steps that can lead to big changes.
  • Assess your personal financial to-do list
  • Learn ways to reach your goals.
  • Start taking action to build financial confidence.

What the Club is not:

  • A get-rich-quick program.
  • A seminar or lecture series.
  • Focused on investment planning.
  • A way for Thrivent Financial to sell life insurance or other products.
  • Just for Lutherans or members of Thrivent Financial.
  • A program where participants are asked to share personal information.

Program Details
Club participants:

  • Build  financial confidence through a fun, supportive and interactive group setting.
  • Set goals and take action on ideas they learn during the sessions.
  •  Use their participant workbooks as a tool for documenting and tracking progress.
  • Typically meet once a week.

Program Structure
The program is built around a DVD series that features four 60-minute (approximate) sessions facilitated by someone in the group. (Find out more about being a Club facilitator.)

Being a Club facilitator doesn’t require any training or special skills. The facilitator simply:
  • Schedules the meeting location and times.
  • Makes arrangements to have a TV and DVD monitor available.
  • Brings the participants’ materials to the first session and distributes them.
  • Plays the DVD at the appropriate times and, if needed, starts the group’s discussions.

It’s important to note that if you are a financial services professional and you choose to be a facilitator, no products or services may be promoted during the program. It is up to each participant to seek licensed financial help as it makes sense for his or her personal situation.

The program can be:

  • A stand-alone series, or
  • Incorporated into an existing program, such as a congregational workshop for newly engaged couples.

Each Club session includes:

  • Opening Faith Reflection (Optional).
  • Welcome/Celebration: Participants begin each Club session by celebrating actions they’ve taken since the previous session.
  • Big Idea: Participants learn about a different financial topic each session, and share tips and ideas within the group.
  • Take Action: Set to-do’s to accomplish over the week to help them get closer to their financial goals.
  • Closing Faith Reflection (Optional).

Note: The program is designed to help participants from a financial perspective. The faith reflection component is included only for those who wish to incorporate a faith-based message into the Club, and is completely optional.

If you would like to share information about the program with others, such as a civic group or pastor/leaders from your congregation, the following materials may be helpful. They provide a high-level overview of the program to help key decision makers determine whether or not they would like to host a Club.

View ideas about how to present the program to key decision makers.

You may already know how you would like to approach key decision makers. You may also have some ideas for developing an introduction letter or Power Point presentation that promotes the Thrivent Financial Fitness Club program. If so, that’s great!  We encourage you to use materials that will most effectively reach your audience and motivate them to take action.

If you need some ideas to get started, we’ve provided examples below:

  • Schedule a brief face-to-face meeting with a decision maker/group and review the program information during your meeting.
  • Mail the introduction letter to key decision makers and follow up with a phone call to determine their level of interest.
  • E-mail a link to the Thrivent Financial Fitness Club Web site and encourage recipients to visit the site. Ask them to respond to you via e-mail or a phone call if they are interested in the program.
